Nurmes. "The Wiiralt Paris Collection" first time in Finland
An art exhibition opens in the gallery "Tyko" in the Northern Karelian town Nurmes on 8 January, where it is possible for the first time to see the new collection of drawings of Eduard Wiiralt. This exhibition is the third display of Wiiralt in Finland. The first was in 1937 and the second in 1993. This time the show is organised by the owner of the collection Juhani Komulainen, Karelian culture center Bomba and the Estonian Institute in Finland and it consists of 44 works of which the most interesting are the self-portrait "The Fiddler" and a draft to his masterpiece "The Hell". After the official opening of the show by the press and information secretary of the Estonian Embassy in Finland, mrs. Kattri-Helina Raba, the Estonian art historian and Wiiralt specialist mrs. Mai Levin will hold a lecture about the message of Wiiralt’s Paris period. The musical part of the opening will be filled by the pianists Lilian Semper and Irina Zahharenkova and the violinist Mati Kärmas. The exhibition stays open until 27 March.
