Decades of occupation were a hard trial for Estonia. But no empire lasts
forever. In the late 1980s, Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians joined hands to show the
world their will to live in freedom and restore the independence.
The Baltic Chain, a 600 km human chain extending from Tallinn to
Vilnius in Lithuania, 23 August 1989. Around 2 million people participated in this
demonstration of people's will.
