The coronation of Kalevipoeg by Kristjan Raud Encouraged by a rich folklore and by the example of their northern neighbours and close linguistic relatives, the Finns, another cornerstone for nation-building was set: on the model of Elias Lönnrot's Kalevala, the Estonians' own epic was published in 1857.
